York's walled city centre — the Shambles, the Minster quarter, the medieval street pattern still intact within the city walls — is one of the most conservation-dense historic cores in England, and most of it is listed or within a conservation area. Realistic solar work here is almost entirely about rear roof planes hidden from view; anything visible from the street or the walls themselves is very unlikely to get consent.

Outside the walls, York's character changes fast: Victorian terraces through Clifton and Fulford, and postwar and newer estates towards Haxby, Acomb and Strensall, carry far fewer restrictions and generally much better solar potential.

We're upfront about this split at the very first conversation — if you're inside the walls or in one of York's inner conservation areas, we'll tell you honestly what's achievable rather than promising a straightforward install we can't deliver.
