Bradford's wool-trade wealth left behind a very distinctive roofline: grand Victorian merchants' villas around Manningham and Heaton, dense stone-built back-to-back terraces closer to the centre, and — a few miles out — Saltaire, the UNESCO World Heritage model village built by Titus Salt. Each of these needs a different approach: back-to-backs often share roof structures with neighbouring properties, while the villas typically have far more usable roof area per household.

Saltaire's World Heritage status means solar there needs particular care — we assess conservation constraints street by street and design around rear roof planes wherever a front-facing install would need additional consent. The same care applies in Bradford's other conservation areas around Little Germany and parts of Manningham.

Further out towards Ilkley, Baildon and the moorland edge, larger stone properties with steeper pitches are common, and these often make excellent solar candidates once shading from nearby stone walls or trees is accounted for.
