Our approach

You speak to an engineer, not a salesperson

From your first conversation to install day, you deal with qualified MCS-certified engineers. No commission reps. No scripts. No upselling. Just technical people giving you a straight answer.

The problem

The person selling you solar has probably never installed a panel.

Most UK solar companies separate sales from engineering. A representative visits your home, shows you a tablet presentation with projected savings, and pushes for a signature. They are paid commission, typically 10 to 18 percent of the system price. That commission is baked into your quote.

The rep does not design your system. They cannot tell you why one inverter suits your property better than another, or what shading from the oak tree in the neighbour's garden will do to your output in winter. Those questions go to an engineer who you will never speak to, and the answers come back filtered through someone whose priority is closing the sale.

We cut out the middleman. At Geko, the person on your video call is the person who designs your system. They are a qualified MCS-certified engineer, they are salaried, and they have no incentive to sell you anything you do not need.

The difference

What changes when an engineer runs the consultation.

Qualified, not trained to sell

The person on your call designs and oversees solar installations for a living. They can answer questions about panel output, inverter sizing, battery chemistry, and grid connection because they work with these systems every day.

Salaried, not commission

Our engineers are paid a salary. Nobody earns more for selling you a bigger system, an unnecessary battery, or a shorter decision window. The recommendation matches your usage, not a commission target.

Screen shared, not scripted

During your video consultation, the engineer shares their screen and designs your system live. You watch every decision being made. No pre-loaded tablet presentation, no pre-built savings calculator designed to impress.

Technical answers on the spot

Ask about shading coefficients, panel degradation rates, or how a hybrid inverter manages grid export. The engineer knows. A sales rep would promise to "get back to you" and never does.

Honest recommendations

About one in five consultations ends with our engineer advising against solar for that property. A commission rep would never do that. We would rather turn down a sale than fit a system that underperforms.

Same person, start to finish

The engineer who designs your system is the same person who briefs the installation team. No handoff to a project manager you have never met. No information lost between departments.

FAQ

Questions about working with engineers.

What qualifications do your engineers have?

Our engineers hold MCS certification through IAA and are qualified to design and oversee domestic and commercial solar installations. They are not sales representatives who have completed a product training course. They are the people who do the technical work.

Why do most solar companies use salespeople instead of engineers?

Because it is cheaper to train a sales rep than to hire a qualified engineer. The doorstep model is built around volume. Send out enough reps, close enough deals on the night, and the margins work even with high commission costs. The trade-off is that the person designing your system has never installed one.

Will an engineer try to upsell me?

No. Our engineers are salaried. They earn the same whether you buy a 3kW system or a 12kW system. Their job is to design the right system for your usage, roof, and budget. Oversizing costs you money and does not benefit them.

Can I ask technical questions during the consultation?

That is the whole point. Ask about panel efficiency, inverter types, battery round-trip losses, shading analysis, DNO applications, anything. The engineer will give you a straight answer because they deal with these questions on every installation.

What if I want to compare your recommendation with another installer?

Good. We send you an itemised proposal by email. Every component is named with brand, wattage, and warranty. Take it to another installer and compare line by line. If they offer better value, we will tell you.

Do you still have engineers if I am outside the south east?

We cover England, Wales, and Scotland. The video consultation works from anywhere. Our install teams travel to you. Same engineers, same process, same pricing regardless of where you live.
