Geko

Our promise

No doorstep sales. No cold calls. No cold calls.

We will never knock on your door or ring you uninvited. Your solar quote happens on a video call with a qualified engineer, on your terms, in your own time.

The problem

The solar industry has a sales problem.

If you have looked into solar panels in the UK, you have probably had the experience. A knock on the door. A clipboard. Someone asking if you are the homeowner. Or worse, a cold call in the middle of dinner from a number you do not recognise.

The doorstep sales model has been the default in UK solar for over a decade. A representative visits your home, sits at your kitchen table for two hours, shows you a tablet presentation with savings figures, and pushes for a signature before they leave. The quote expires tonight. The discount expires tonight. Everything expires tonight.

It works for the company because commission-based reps close at higher rates when the customer does not have time to compare quotes. It does not work for the customer because you end up making a five-figure decision under pressure, often overpaying, and sometimes getting a system that is oversized for your actual usage.

We started Geko Energy because we thought there was a better way.

How we work

Six things we do differently.

No cold calls

We will never phone you out of the blue. Every conversation starts because you asked for it.

No commission

Our engineers are salaried. Nobody is paid more for selling you a bigger system or a shorter decision window.

Video, not kitchen table

Your consultation happens on a video call. The engineer shares their screen and designs your system live. You watch every decision being made.

Engineers, not reps

The person on the call is the person who designs your system. They can answer technical questions because they do this work every day.

No expiring quotes

Your quote does not expire. We do not do "this price is only valid tonight" because our pricing does not change depending on how fast you sign.

MCS-certified

Geko is MCS-certified via IAA. Your installation qualifies for the Smart Export Guarantee and any green mortgage incentive that requires MCS.

FAQ

Questions about our process.

Why don't you do doorstep sales like other solar companies?

Because the doorstep model puts a salesperson's commission ahead of the customer's needs. The rep is incentivised to close on the night, oversell the system size, and use urgency tactics. We wanted to build something where the incentives point the right way. A salaried engineer on a video call has no reason to push you into a bigger system or a faster decision.

How do I know you won't cold call me after I enquire?

We will call you once to book your video consultation at a time that works for you. After that, communication is by email unless you tell us otherwise. We do not pass your details to third parties and we do not have an outbound sales team.

What is the catch with a free consultation?

There is no catch. About one in five consultations ends with us telling the homeowner that solar is not the right move for their property. We would rather be honest than fit a system that underperforms. The consultation is free because it costs us 30 minutes, not a half-day site visit with fuel and a salesperson's commission.

Can I get a quote without speaking to anyone at all?

Our online estimator gives you a ballpark in about two minutes. But for an accurate, installation-ready quote we need a 30-minute video call to assess your roof properly. The call is the quote process. There is no follow-up sales call after it.

Do you cover my area?

We install across England, Wales, and Scotland. The video consultation works the same wherever you are. Our teams travel to you for the install.

How do I report a company that cold called me about solar?

Register with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) at tpsonline.org.uk. If a company calls you after you have registered, report them to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Cold calling someone on the TPS register is a criminal offence under UK law.
