Why we put Aiko Neostar on our customers' roofs.

Most residential solar panels in the UK use PERC or TOPCon cell technology. They work well, they are proven, and they are getting cheaper every year. But they have two limitations that matter on a typical British roof: visible grid lines across the cell face, and slightly lower efficiency per square metre.

Aiko's Neostar panels use ABC (All Back Contact) cells. All electrical connections sit on the rear of the cell rather than the front. The result is a panel that is both more efficient per square metre and genuinely black from the street. No silver lines, no visible busbars, no compromise between output and appearance.

We chose Aiko because it solves the two problems we hear about most from homeowners. "I do not have much roof space" and "I do not want ugly panels on the front of my house." Neostar handles both.

Why Aiko

The technical case for ABC panels.

Higher efficiency

ABC cell technology delivers more watts per square metre than conventional PERC or standard TOPCon panels. On a small or partially shaded roof, that difference means you can hit your target output with fewer panels.

Genuinely all-black

Most panels marketed as "all-black" still have visible silver busbars and grid lines on the cell surface. Aiko's ABC design moves all electrical contacts to the back of the cell. The result is a completely uniform black face with no visible wiring.

Better in low light

N-type cells perform better than P-type in overcast and low-light conditions. In the UK, where cloud cover is the norm for most of the year, that translates into more usable generation hours per day.

Lower temperature coefficient

All solar panels lose output as they heat up. Aiko's N-type ABC cells have a lower temperature coefficient than standard panels, which means they hold their rated output better on warm summer days when your roof gets hot.

25-year product warranty

Aiko is a Tier-1 manufacturer. The 25-year product warranty is backed by a company with the manufacturing scale and financial standing to honour it. Budget panels often carry long warranties from companies that may not exist in 10 years.

Questions about Aiko solar panels.

What does ABC mean in solar panels?

ABC stands for All Back Contact. In a conventional solar cell, the electrical busbars run across the front of the cell, creating the visible silver grid lines you see on most panels. In an ABC cell, all contacts are moved to the back. The front surface is completely unobstructed, which increases efficiency and gives the panel a clean, uniform black appearance.

How does Aiko compare to other panel brands?

Aiko sits at the premium end of the residential market. The Neostar competes with SunPower Maxeon and REC Alpha in terms of efficiency and aesthetics. The main advantage over standard TOPCon panels from brands like Jinko or JA Solar is the ABC cell design, which delivers higher efficiency and a genuinely all-black look without visible busbars.

Are Aiko panels worth the extra cost?

It depends on your priorities. If roof space is limited and you need maximum output from fewer panels, Aiko's higher efficiency pays for itself. If aesthetics matter and you want panels that blend with a dark roof, the all-black ABC design is hard to beat. If you have plenty of roof space and appearance is not a concern, a standard Tier-1 panel will generate similar lifetime output at a lower upfront cost.

Can I pair Aiko panels with any battery system?

Yes. Aiko panels are standard DC solar panels and work with any compatible inverter and battery system. We typically pair them with Sigenergy SigenStor or Fox ESS hybrid systems, but they are not locked to any particular brand.

What is a Tier-1 solar panel?

Tier-1 is a classification from Bloomberg New Energy Finance based on a manufacturer's financial stability and bankability, not product quality directly. However, Tier-1 manufacturers have the scale, R&D investment, and financial backing to honour long warranties. Aiko is a Tier-1 manufacturer.

How many Aiko panels would I need?

It depends on your electricity usage and roof space. A typical UK home using 3,500 kWh per year would need around 8 to 10 Aiko Neostar 455W panels. Our engineer will calculate the exact number based on your actual consumption and roof layout during your free video consultation.

Does Geko install other panel brands?

Yes. We also install DMEGC Tier-1 panels. During your consultation, the engineer will recommend whichever panel best suits your roof, budget, and priorities. We do not push one brand over another.
