Across our own installs we typically see payback in around 5–6 years, sometimes a little under. Two things drive it: our own engineers design and fit everything, so there's no subcontractor margin, and a battery on a time-of-use tariff earns on both your solar and cheap overnight electricity. Your figure depends on your unit rate, roof orientation and how much you self-consume. We'll work out your numbers at your free consultation. After payback, the system runs essentially free for the remaining 15+ years.

We register your install with the relevant certification scheme and SEG. You apply to your preferred SEG supplier (Octopus, E.ON, British Gas all pay competitive rates). They pay you monthly or quarterly, and you can switch SEG supplier independently of your import tariff.

Standard grid-tied solar shuts off during a cut for engineer safety. For blackout backup, we fit a battery with a dedicated backup circuit that keeps your essentials (lights, fridge, WiFi) running. Adds £400–£800 to the install.

Yes. We manage the DNO G98/G99 application end-to-end. Planning is rarely needed for homes (permitted development covers most), but where it is, we handle that too.

Typically one day on the roof. Scaffolding goes up the day before, and everything is tested and live on your phone before we leave. From first call to switched on typically takes 4 weeks.

25 years on the panels, 10–12 years on the inverter, and 10 years on batteries. All are manufacturer warranties, registered direct with the brand, so they stay valid for the full term independently of any installer.

You still generate, only less. A UK 4 kW system typically produces around 70% of its annual output between April and September and 30% between October and March. Even on a grey winter day you'll see 5–15% of a sunny summer day. The annual figures we quote already factor in UK weather.

For most UK homes, 5–10 kWh is the sweet spot. Smaller and you spill solar to the grid for pennies. Larger and you'll cycle it less than once a day, slowing payback. We size it to your evening usage, EV charging plans and tariff (e.g. Octopus Agile or Intelligent). If a battery doesn't earn its keep yet, we'll say so.

Yes. Every Geko hybrid inverter is battery-ready, so adding storage later is a few hours' work with no panel disruption. Many customers start solar-only, watch their usage for 6–12 months, then size a battery on that data. It costs slightly more than bundling at install.

The system stays with the property. Solar PV is widely recognised as a value-adding home improvement, and many surveyors reflect it in their valuations. Manufacturer warranties on the panels, inverter and battery transfer to the new owners automatically. We send transfer paperwork on request.
