Coventry is unusual among UK cities for solar surveying, because so much of it was rebuilt after bombing destroyed most of the historic centre in 1940. That means a higher proportion of postwar housing — 1950s and 60s estates with wide, often unshaded roof planes — than in most comparable cities, alongside pockets of genuinely older housing that survived, like the timber-framed streets around Spon Street.

The postwar estates through Wyken, Radford and Binley often make excellent solar candidates: generous plot sizes, consistent roof orientation and less overshadowing than tighter Victorian terraces elsewhere. Older streets nearer the centre and around Earlsdon need more individual care.

Earlsdon and the surviving Spon Street area carry conservation status, and we design around that where it applies — rear or side roof planes usually keep an install within permitted development.
