Commercial solar
Cut your business energy costs. Built for the next 25 years.
50kW to 1MW+ rooftop and ground-mount solar for UK SMEs, farms, warehouses and multi-site operators. Designed in-house, installed in-house, supported for 25 years.
Accredited & protected
Why commercial solar
Four reasons it's on every UK CFO's shortlist.
Cut energy costs 40–70%
Most commercial roofs displace the majority of daytime consumption. The bigger the system, the better the unit economics.
Hedge against price spikes
Lock in your daytime generation cost for 25+ years. Insulate your P&L from the next energy shock.
Hit your Scope 1 & 2 targets
Verifiable on-site generation supports SECR, B Corp, ISO 14001 and supply-chain sustainability reporting.
Claim capital allowances
Solar qualifies for first-year capital allowances. Geko works alongside your accountant to capture the relief.
What we build
Sized to your roof, your usage, and your books.
Workshops, small warehouses, offices, single-site retail
Farms, distribution units, manufacturers, schools, hotels
Logistics hubs, food production, multi-site portfolios
Who we work with
Sectors we know inside out.
Funding the project
Three ways to finance it.
We're finance-route-agnostic. We'll model the maths on all three and let you (and your accountant) pick the structure that fits your business.
Outright purchase
You own the system from day one. Capital allowances, full SEG income, fastest ROI.
Best for: Best when cash reserves are strong and you want the cleanest economics.
Power Purchase Agreement
A third-party finances and owns the system. You buy the electricity at a fixed rate, typically 30–50% below grid.
Best for: Best when you'd rather avoid the upfront cost and lock in a long-term cheap rate.
Operating lease
Off-balance-sheet financing across a 5–10 year term. Predictable monthly cost, ownership transfers at end of term.
Best for: Best when you want tax-deductible operating expense rather than capex.
How it works
From half-hourly data to switch-on.
Free feasibility & site survey
We pull your half-hourly metering data and a satellite roof analysis. You get a fully-modelled proposal — generation, self-consumption, ROI — within a week.
Detailed design & DNO
Our engineers produce the full SLD, structural calcs and DNO G99 application. We handle the network operator process end-to-end.
Planning & contracts
Where permitted development doesn't cover it, we manage the planning submission. PPA or lease paperwork runs in parallel.
Install & commission
In-house install team. Typical 250kW system: 3–4 weeks on site. Commissioning, MCS sign-off, half-hourly export metering and monitoring.
25-year aftercare
Quarterly remote performance reviews, annual on-site service, warranty support. Plus optional O&M contracts for larger sites.
FAQ
Common questions.
What size of business do you work with?
We typically install systems from 50kW upward. Below that you're better served by our residential or light-commercial team. Above 1MW we partner with a specialist EPC for the build phase but Geko remains your single point of contact.
How long does a commercial install take?
From signed contract to switch-on, typically 12–20 weeks. Most of that is DNO and planning. The physical install for a 250kW system is around 3–4 weeks on site, with minimal disruption to your operations — we work around your business hours wherever possible.
What's the typical ROI?
For a UK SME with a south-facing or east-west commercial roof, payback is typically 4–7 years depending on your current grid rate, self-consumption profile, and chosen finance route. After payback, the system generates effectively free electricity for the remaining 18+ years of its warrantied life.
Do you offer a Power Purchase Agreement?
Yes. We work with a small panel of trusted PPA providers who finance, own and maintain the system. You pay a fixed (or indexed) rate for the electricity generated — typically 30–50% below your current grid rate — with no upfront capital outlay.
Will solar work on my flat roof?
Absolutely. Most commercial installs are on flat roofs using ballasted, non-penetrative mounting systems. We carry out a structural load assessment before any design is signed off to confirm the existing roof can take the additional weight (typically 15–25 kg/m²).
What happens to the electricity we don't use on-site?
Any surplus generation is exported to the grid via the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) and credited to your business at the rate agreed with your supplier. For sites with significant export, we'll help you shop the SEG market for the best tariff.
Can you handle multi-site rollouts?
Yes. We're set up to design, contract and deliver portfolios of commercial sites — useful for retail chains, school trusts, logistics operators and SME multi-site owners. One contract, one project manager, one standard install spec.
What accreditations do you hold?
We're going through MCS certification with the IAA as our certifying body; we're an IAA member (Microgeneration Guarantee Scheme — Insurance-Backed Guarantee on every install) and NAPIT-registered for electrical works (Part P notifications). We carry £10m public liability and £5m professional indemnity insurance — certificates available on request.
